In this section, I'd like to share articles and images of some of the many interesting things I've discovered depicting alpacas, llamas, guanacos and sometimes the vicuna.

With such a love for the alpacas and llamas in my life, the seduction of collecting their likeness in as many "forms" as might could be found has been nearly impossible to resist. It is remarkable and nearly unbelievable to discover how much alpacas and llamas are noticed and appreciated around the globe. Many countries have issued postage stamps bearing their likeness. Products have included an alpaca or llama card in their packaging. There are phone cards, commemorative envelopes, special ink cancellations, numismatic cover issues, postcards, advertising and more.

Useful Definitions

Philately - The collection and study of postage stamps, postmarks and related materials.

Cartophily - Specifically defines the collection of cigarette cards although the modern definition has expanded to include the collection of other product (coffee, tea, soap, etc.) trade cards. A cartiohilic item is a specific card that is given away as a promotional or advertising aid.

Cartophily - The study and collection of money and medals. From Latin numisma meaning "a coin."

Cancellations - The marks or obliterations put on stamps by postal authorities to show that they have performed service and to prevent their reuse.

Tobacco Silk - A tobacco silk is an interesting item. During the early 1900's, cigarette trade card competition was at an all time high. Transferring the trade card idea onto small rectangle pieces of silk became the competitive edge.

There's alot of pictures on these pages so please give them some time to download!
